    Description

Up for bids is a lightly circulated, toned, lustrous French Indo-China 1916-A 20 Centimes, graded PCGS AU55.  The PCGS photo makes the coin look reddish, which it is not. My photos get the color right. Scarce issue -- mintage of one million.  The capital “A” on the reverse, below the denomination and within the wreath, identifies the Paris mint. This classic design was used continuously from 1879 to 1946 by the French for their Cochin China and Indo-China colonial issues, for the 10 Centimes, 20 Centimes and 50 Centimes denominations.

These coins were created by the French for use in commerce in her Southeast Asian colonies in the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century. This commercial purpose is underscored by the inclusion in the reverse of the coins weight (5.4 grams) and silver fineness (0.835).
